
Healing with water, or “hydrotherapy” has been part of the spa experience for centuries. The Egyptians, the Romans and even Mark Twain, who famously soaked in the spring water at Aix-les-Bains, France during a tour of Europe in 1891, have reveled in the pleasures of warm water. After the soothing springs helped relieve his rheumatism, Twain commented that the experience was “so enjoyable that if I hadn’t had a disease I would have borrowed one just to have a pretext for going on”.
